My Surprise/Unexpected GST - Day 34

1.  A surprise birthday party, quite surprising 13 days before my birthday :)  I felt so loved and special tonight!  Thanks everyone, especially Joanna and Stacey and Melissa for putting this together!  You guys are awesome - love you!!!

2.  A surprising amount of energy during the day - I had a spring in my step and silliness all over my face through the school day.  Warmer weather and the sun really do change your outlook on life!

3.  A surprising lack of outer attire for the day.  Coats and scarves were not even necessary for most of the day!

4.  A surprise gift - one of my Korean students, Hansam (almost said like handsome, but not quite),  brought me lead for my Korean mechanical pencil.  I've teased them before about bringing it for me and he did today -  in a little flowery-pink bag! lol ...  it was so cute!

5.  A surprisingly well behaved student!  One of my new students has really been pushing the limits and testing me - however, today this particular student behaved so well!  It was so wonderful!!

AND one more ...  God gave me some really good talks throughout the day with various friends .... He is so good and has blessed me with wonderful people here!

Welcoming strangers into my home

For 16 weeks now, we have had a young refugee couple from Syria living with us. As the refugee crisis really started to explode here, facebook was buzzing with articles, videos, pictures, etc. of the situation. I read a lot. I saw a lot. I was moved. I was troubled. But what could I do? I had a three year old and one year old at home.  ... I could teach some German. But when?   ... I could donate clothes and other items that were needed. But that didn't seem like enough. ... I could give money. But I wanted something more tangible.  I would put my youngest to bed and during those days, she needed lots of TLC in order to get to sleep. 6. chair

Z is loving her new "chair"- no more laying around in the buggy for this little one. {unless of course she's napping} She loves looking around and taking it all in. I love being able to see her better this way and laugh together. Just today I got stopped at the grocery store by a woman that asked me if I knew how adoringly my baby was looking at me.  It was a strange, yet funny and sweet, experience...very un-Austrian.
