In preparation for baby...

...I've made two meals and two different types of breakfast breads and frozen them {now that I've typed it out, it doesn't seem that great...}.  If only we had a bigger freezer and didn't have other stuff inside of it, like ice cream! ;)  I think I'm going to try and use some things like peas {yuck}, frozen pizza, hashbrowns ... up so that I can use that precious freezer space.

You see European size fridges are quite a bit smaller than American ones and let's not even compare the freezer part.  I'm actually lucky when it comes to fridge size.  Lots of people have one that is as tall as your counter and that's it!

Thankfully when we moved into our apartment, there was a big fridge already in the kitchen.  However, not long after we lived here, it died.  We didn't waste much time in buying a new one that had the same size.  We have exactly three skinny freezer drawers - which is better than one, which I had in my last apartment.

Another hard part is that they don't have the disposable dishes here for baking things, so I have to be careful not to use all my pyrex dishes for meals.  But a friend passed along some yummy looking recipes that you can put in big freezer bags (here and here and this one looks yummy!).  I may try to make one of these ... she's got lots and lots ideas for non dishes freezing!  Check it out.  Let me know if you try any of them.  I've made her pizza pockets before and they were tasty.

I think tomorrow I'll tackle another meal and see about doing one more over the weekend.  Maybe.  Hopefully I can be ambitious and baby waits a bit longer, although I'm ready for her to come ... today!! :)

Welcoming strangers into my home

For 16 weeks now, we have had a young refugee couple from Syria living with us. They have been married a little over a year and for the majority of that time have been separated from each other, since he made the journey to Austria alone and got everything in order so that she could come legally.  Let me backtrack a bit and tell you how it all started. As the refugee crisis really started to explode here, facebook was buzzing with articles, videos, pictures, etc. of the situation. I read a lot. I saw a lot. I was moved. I was troubled. But what could I do? I had a three year old and one year old at home.  ... I could teach some German. But when?   ... I could donate clothes and other items that were needed. But that didn't seem like enough. ... I could give money. But I wanted something more tangible.  I would put my youngest to bed and during those days, she needed lots of TLC in order to get to sleep. I kept thinking about the refugees and how they didn't

a little check in on life over here

-- We had our "big reveal" on facebook. It looks like we'll be having another little girl! We're thrilled for a little sister for Zoey, plus the bonus of recycling all our baby girl clothes is awesome! But most importantly, baby is healthy and all is looking well!-- -- The weather here has been so great. We've been meeting lots of friends at playgrounds and parks and going for walks. It's fun to be able to play on the playground with Zoey now that she can walk and do things! But also very tiring for this pregnant mama! --  -- We've been doing lots of house things ... looking at doors, fences, different types of floors, kitchen appliances, etc. Next WEEK , they will start the digging part of building the house and then the following week , the basement will be built!! YAY, things are finally getting started!! So curious to see how all this is going to go. We stopped some new neighbors and introduced ourselves and let them now things wi

Done w/ orientations!!

On Thursday, the last day of orientations was completed! All the new staff has had a busy last 3 weeks, but they were very informative (sometimes overload on information though). It feels great to be done with orientations and to be starting school. School starts on Monday and things at the school have been crazy trying to get things ready to go. There is a rather large construction project taking place at the school and we have been working on that since the construction workers are behind schedule ... we've been tearing off paint, repainting, cleaning, etc. My classes will not start until Thursday, since elementary has half days until then. I'm so thankful for the extra time to get things done and be prepared for my classes. I'm a bit unsure as of what to do in classes ... so I'm hoping I'll come across some great ideas! Prayers for this are greatly appreciated!
