My poor cell phone

Yesterday, Felix and I met up in the Ubahn (subway - for the non Deutsch speakers out there) to go to our friends' apartment. I tried to save him the seat next to me by placing my bag there, but some lady who was not content to sit in the perfectly empty seat across from me had to sit right beside me. So I quickly grab my things and get situated - thinking sheesh!

Several stops later, Felix enters and sits across from me. As I'm putting away our iTouch and trying to juggle my huge bag (it had a big game in it) and cell phone ... the cell phone started to slip and I remember thinking, I should try to catch it, because the floor is nasty, but I just can't do that right now. Felix and I both leaned to get it and realize, it had gotten stuck between the seat and the wall. We were still able to see it, but the slot to get it was so thin nothing we had would have gotten it out. We tried and tried until finally it was laying on it's back in there and out of reach. The whole time I felt so stupid ... a man was watching and offered his pen (after we got Felix's pen stuck in there!).

Finally, we reached the final stop of the Ubahn and everyone has to get off. We get off and are discussing what to do next. So Felix said he'd try to catch the driver and explain what happened while I should go and look to see if there is an information station there. I didn't find one and walked up to the platform where the next train would be leaving from. Across the way I see Felix - walking parallel to the tracks where you aren't supposed to and trying to get to the driver. I keep telling myself how dumb that was of me ... and I'll never get it back, my sweet texts from Felix will be gone and my phone numbers ... ugh ... I hope the driver doesn't get angry w/ Felix!! etc ...

Then I spotted Felix and the driver walking to the end of the train, which turns into the new front of the train once the train reaches the end of the line. Felix gets into the driver's cabin part with the driver and the train pulls right on up to the station! So I book it up to the front in order to let Felix know where I am, because if I loose him, I'm in trouble - I can't call him! I get up there and the driver is getting our info and then calls the "ubahn garage/maintenance" people and tells them the scoop. We then get to continue to our friends' apartment and hope they are able to get to the phone.

About 3/4 into the evening, Felix gets a call and the people want to know exactly where the phone is. Shortly thereafter, they call back and say they have it and if we could come by sometime and pick it up! :D So long story short - my cell phone was saved from the clutches of the ubahn seats!!!!

See even God can make something good out of a dumb mistake! Thank you, Jesus!!

10 Months

Baby Z is ten months today.  She's moving into toddlerhood and out of babyness...boo hoo....She's starting to have her own little will and get angry when things don't go her way.  She's realized she can make us laugh.  She loves watching little kids and squeals with delight.  Stroller rides are a favorite and also nice for a little snooze at times.  Cheerios are another favorite {she's a great eater, just not a good drinker}.  Sleeping through the night is almost an everyday occurrence {PTL!}!  Her sleeping postions are always quite amusing...you never know how you will find her.  She's incredibly curious and loves getting into things {empty boxes, laundry baskets, bags, etc is highly entertaining}.  If a cellphone or computer are somewhere near her, she doesn't waste any time getting to them.  She has so much energy.  Naps are kept short, often a half hour, if I'm lucky an hour.  I'm so thankful for this sweet, little, energy bundle.  I look forwa

Welcoming strangers into my home

For 16 weeks now, we have had a young refugee couple from Syria living with us. They have been married a little over a year and for the majority of that time have been separated from each other, since he made the journey to Austria alone and got everything in order so that she could come legally.  Let me backtrack a bit and tell you how it all started. As the refugee crisis really started to explode here, facebook was buzzing with articles, videos, pictures, etc. of the situation. I read a lot. I saw a lot. I was moved. I was troubled. But what could I do? I had a three year old and one year old at home.  ... I could teach some German. But when?   ... I could donate clothes and other items that were needed. But that didn't seem like enough. ... I could give money. But I wanted something more tangible.  I would put my youngest to bed and during those days, she needed lots of TLC in order to get to sleep. I kept thinking about the refugees and how they didn't
