Forty-eighth Day

*  Bible Study:  Normally, my Bible Study meets on Wednesday, but this we had an African refugee come and share his story.  So two Bible Studies were put together to hear how this man's circumstances of fleeing his country brought him to his salvation!  We serve such a mighty and awesome God!!

*  Getting places:  One of the girls from Bible Study met up with me to help me go to tonight's meeting and then afterwards, I got a ride to the subway line that I live off of!  Always a great help, especially as it gets later and later and people live far out of the city!

*  3rd grade:  This afternoon, I had about an hour where I was able to go into third grade and just be there.  They were working on Bio Poetry posters (each child had received a paper where they had fill out things about themselves, i.e. wishes to, dreams of, wants to, who wonders, who likes, etc)....so I sat down at one of the desks and worked on mine.  They all thought this was really funny and teased me that I was the missing student of the day.  It was so nice just to be able to hang out with them and have fun and then chat with their teacher!!  I love 3rd grade! :)  PLUS I got all kinds of comments like: Miss Kidd, I like your handwriting.  Miss Kidd, your poster is so pretty.  And then my favorite: Miss Kidd, what's your name?  Me:  Miss Kidd.  Student: No, like your real name?  Me: Leslie.  Student: I like Miss Kidd better!  (hum...not sure if that was a compliment or not?! lol)  ... made me and Miss Brunker smile though! lol

*  Primary:  Some days in Primary, I feel at a loss as what and how to teach them.  Today I had some games prepared and it was fun to see how they responded to them.  They had so much fun and I really enjoyed teaching them today!   Plus everyone's behavior was pretty good - this is not always a given.

*  Mail:  I got a birthday card in snail mail today!  It's not very often that regular ole mail comes these days.  It made me happy... :)

Welcoming strangers into my home

For 16 weeks now, we have had a young refugee couple from Syria living with us. They have been married a little over a year and for the majority of that time have been separated from each other, since he made the journey to Austria alone and got everything in order so that she could come legally.  Let me backtrack a bit and tell you how it all started. As the refugee crisis really started to explode here, facebook was buzzing with articles, videos, pictures, etc. of the situation. I read a lot. I saw a lot. I was moved. I was troubled. But what could I do? I had a three year old and one year old at home.  ... I could teach some German. But when?   ... I could donate clothes and other items that were needed. But that didn't seem like enough. ... I could give money. But I wanted something more tangible.  I would put my youngest to bed and during those days, she needed lots of TLC in order to get to sleep. I kept thinking about the refugees and how they didn't

a little check in on life over here

-- We had our "big reveal" on facebook. It looks like we'll be having another little girl! We're thrilled for a little sister for Zoey, plus the bonus of recycling all our baby girl clothes is awesome! But most importantly, baby is healthy and all is looking well!-- -- The weather here has been so great. We've been meeting lots of friends at playgrounds and parks and going for walks. It's fun to be able to play on the playground with Zoey now that she can walk and do things! But also very tiring for this pregnant mama! --  -- We've been doing lots of house things ... looking at doors, fences, different types of floors, kitchen appliances, etc. Next WEEK , they will start the digging part of building the house and then the following week , the basement will be built!! YAY, things are finally getting started!! So curious to see how all this is going to go. We stopped some new neighbors and introduced ourselves and let them now things wi

Done w/ orientations!!

On Thursday, the last day of orientations was completed! All the new staff has had a busy last 3 weeks, but they were very informative (sometimes overload on information though). It feels great to be done with orientations and to be starting school. School starts on Monday and things at the school have been crazy trying to get things ready to go. There is a rather large construction project taking place at the school and we have been working on that since the construction workers are behind schedule ... we've been tearing off paint, repainting, cleaning, etc. My classes will not start until Thursday, since elementary has half days until then. I'm so thankful for the extra time to get things done and be prepared for my classes. I'm a bit unsure as of what to do in classes ... so I'm hoping I'll come across some great ideas! Prayers for this are greatly appreciated!
