end of the school year

Slowly this feeling of end of the school year busyness is dwindling down.  And I am so thankful for this.  Sorry there hasn't been a blog post in a while ... I've gotten a "scolding" regarding this! ;)  You know who you are! (love you though!)

Sad:
With the end of the school year though, many goodbyes will be said.  Goodbyes to students who move to different countries or transfer to different schools.  Goodbyes to dear friends, who have worked with me for the past several years.  Summer has such a bitter sweet touch to it.  Not sure I'm a fan of that.

BUT then there's some sweet, too:

Michelle, one of my best friends from college, is coming to visit in less than 3 WEEKS!!  I'm so excited to see her again!!!  We met many a moon ago in a Linguistics class.  She sat in front of me and it took us a while to warm up to each other, aka just get the courage to talk to the other one, but once we did, we were fast friends.  No matter how time lapses or how long we haven't talked, we can still pick up right where we left off.  I love that about our friendship!

AND after she leaves, I won't have to be too sad, because just 4 days later Felix and I will be flying to the States and soon thereafter, I can love on those wonderful nieces of mine!

Here are some things I'm looking forward to about the summer:
* time with my sisters, laughing together, playing games, talking, shopping, playing with babies
* kisses and snuggling and holding my sweet nieces
* meeting some of Felix's friends
* seeing family friends that I haven't seen in years!
* going to Joanna's wedding <3
* catching up with Virginia friends
* shopping!!
* doughnuts, bagels, good ole American hamburgers
...I'm sure there's more...but that's it for now!

Welcoming strangers into my home

For 16 weeks now, we have had a young refugee couple from Syria living with us. They have been married a little over a year and for the majority of that time have been separated from each other, since he made the journey to Austria alone and got everything in order so that she could come legally.  Let me backtrack a bit and tell you how it all started. As the refugee crisis really started to explode here, facebook was buzzing with articles, videos, pictures, etc. of the situation. I read a lot. I saw a lot. I was moved. I was troubled. But what could I do? I had a three year old and one year old at home.  ... I could teach some German. But when?   ... I could donate clothes and other items that were needed. But that didn't seem like enough. ... I could give money. But I wanted something more tangible.  I would put my youngest to bed and during those days, she needed lots of TLC in order to get to sleep. I kept thinking about the refugees and how t...

6. chair

Z is loving her new "chair"- no more laying around in the buggy for this little one. {unless of course she's napping} She loves looking around and taking it all in. I love being able to see her better this way and laugh together. Just today I got stopped at the grocery store by a woman that asked me if I knew how adoringly my baby was looking at me.  It was a strange, yet funny and sweet, experience...very un-Austrian.
